It's been a busy weekend for me personally, as I've been working hard to spend time with my son and wife. I also did a lot of swimming and working out over the weekend, too. I've got eleven more pounds to lose before I hit my goal for "fighting shape" and can resume training in mixed martial arts. Now that the work week is upon me again, I can spend some time on the MWR site and pro wrestling in general.
The MWR 2008 Writing Competition has been slow to pick up steam, as expected. It can take some time for writing that perfect essay, as I can attest to. I hope to receive more entries over the next ten days. I need 25 entries to continue with the competition. Remember, the deadline is July 31, 2008. The grand prize winner will receive two tickets to a independent wrestling show in his or her area, a indy wrestling DVD, and $200. If the writing competition is successful, I can expand prizes for the 2009 edition. For more information about the contest, click here.
Kari Williams and Brian Kelley have been all over the place so far this summer, and they've put together some great articles for the site. I'll be releasing two of them over the course of the next week. Be on the lookout! I am also personally working on a great feature on an interesting figure in Midwest pro wrestling whom many of you may not know about. That will be completed and released sometime after the 4th of July.
Speaking of Independence Day, I wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for each and every veteran of our armed forces. The United States of America is the greatest nation on the planet. I refuse to believe otherwise. Some people may disagree, but I don't see them trying to move elsewhere. We owe the greatness of our nation to those who serve. Please take the time over this coming holiday weekend to thank a soldier.
I also encourage you to show your support for troops in a more tangible way. The Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/) helps American veterans whom you may not normally show tangible appreciation for. These are the mentally and physically impaired, the homeless, and those with family problems. Missouri Wrestling Revival is an official supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, and I am myself a wounded warrior. You may submit a donation on behalf of Missouri Wrestling Revival via Paypal to this e-mail address, or go to the Wounded Warrior Project and donate there to bypass any support of this website. The choice is completely up to you. Just please be sure to think of those who many of us overlook when thinking about the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, or any other places a soldier has been taken over the last hundred years.
As reported earlier, MWR will be hosting Podcasts of Absolute Wrestling Radio. There is a link on the right side of the page for PODCASTS. Here is the direct link. We've got AWR's debut episode up right now, and I am waiting on the audio for episode two right now. It's a great program, with information on national level MMA and pro wrestling, as well as a great deal of information on local stuff!
June's Awards will be on the way soon followed by 2nd Quarter 2008 Awards. I will personally be making my selections for Half-Year Awards in the near future, as well. The Half-Year awards will not be official and will not be voted on. They will strictly be my own personal choices.
